В конце прошлого столетия в Петербурге с большим успехом шел балет "Дочь фараона", поставленный известным балетмейстером Мариусом Петипа. В первом действии фигурировал лев, который шел по скале и, убитый стрелой охотника, падал вниз. Льва играл опытный статист. Брал за эту роль немалые деньги. Однажды он заболел. Петипа хотел было отменить спектакль, свои услуги предложил другой статист. Петипа следил за ходом действия. Вот идет лев, охотник пустил стрелу. Но лев испугался и не хотел падать в бездну. Петипа нервничает, показывает статисту кулак. И тут случилось чудо: лев встал на задние лапы, перекрестился правой передней и прыгнул вниз.
